Cladosporium is a kind of mold that is present in many homes.  The unique aspect of cladosporium is that it prefers cool parts of the home such as a basement.  It can grow on fabric and wood surfaces.  This kind of mold can cause infections to the skin and toenails in addition to sinusitis and infections of the pulmonary system.  If airborne, it can be the source of allergens affecting people with respiratory diseases.

Fusarium is another mold that can grow at lower temperatures.  It prefers to grow in water damaged areas, and it can contribute to allergic reactions, asthma and respiratory issues.  This particular mold can severely affect the production of barley in the country with a major impact on the brewing industry.  Fusarium can create infections in the nails of people and in the cornea.  There is also potential for blood infections to occur.  Fusarium is so serious that during World War II, it was used as a biological weapon.  Treat immediately if you suspect fusarium is present.

Mucor is a very common mold found in soil, plant surfaces, rotten vegetable matter and in digestive systems.  This mold appears white to beige, and they can be very fast growing.  Over time, these molds turn brown.  In most cases, this mold does not affect humans due to an inability to grow in warm temperatures.20141014_101853

Penicillium is a kind of mold that grows on water damaged materials.  Carpet, wallpaper, insulation can all provide a great environment for this kind of mold to grow.  It can spread very easily around the home.  This mold can also be used as a antibiotic killing other forms of bacteria in the body.  Other forms of the mold can be used in the making of cheese.

Stachybotrys is the most serious kind of mold that is present in the home.  Also known as Black Mold, this mold looks slimy and black.  It can produce toxic compounds known as mycotoxins which have a serious health impact on people.  This mold can cause breathing problems, asthma, allergic reactions, chronic fatigue, and depression.  If found in your home, do not try to remove yourself, but have a certified and trained company remove.
